Bowmanville Zoo and Michael Hackenberger Will Continue To Abuse Animals As Long As The OSPCA Sits Idly By

Last week a video made public by PETA showed Michael Hackenberger, owner and trainer at Bowmanville Zoo allegedly violently whipping a tiger 19 times :

The video went viral, as animal advocates expressed their disgust not only at the whipping of the tiger, but also at the language used by Hackenberger :

"You piece of fucking..."

"Cause I like hitting him in the face."

"But here's the problem at the end of the day. If we'd been running a videotape the whole time you were here and you did a 45 second montage of the times I struck this animal, PETA would burn this place to the ground."

As a result of the public outcry the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA) has stated that while it is still investigating, "In this situation, our officers did not find the tigers to be in immediate distress, as defined by the Ontario SPCA act."

This is not the first time Hackenberger has been accused of abusing animals. Earlier this year on a live television morning show the zoo owner came under fire for telling a baboon, "Fuck you, cocksucker." Watch how quickly Hackenberger switches gears from a mild mannered animal trainer to a state of extreme frustration and anger, back to cool and collected once he remembers he's on live television. It is truly frightening.

Unfortunately, if you think the OSPCA will actually lay charges against Hackenberger or the Bowmanville Zoo don't hold your breath. Remember, this is the organization that has still refused to charge the OPP officer who drove over a dog three times before shooting it to death yet in the past had no problem charging one woman because her dogs had tartar on their teeth. No doubt that fell under the parameters of, "immediate distress".

Nearly every person who watches the Bowmanville Zoo videos sees Michael Hackenberger for what he is, a serial animal abuser who should be criminally charged and never again be allowed to work with animals. Meanwhile the OSPCA sees him perfectly fit to own a zoo.

Yet again it falls into the hands of Ontario citizens to stand up for the animals, as the organization mandated by law to do so sits idly by. In this case there is only one way to do so, and it is incredibly simple :

Remember, if you buy a ticket to this animal house of horrors you might as well ask for a whip when you enter the doors, because you are no better than Michael Hackenberger who it turns out is not only a sick animal abuser, but a real, "piece of fucking...".
