  2. I wish that the general vote would be just 1 of the factors overall for a group of judges to decide. In this format its just not real as there are so many ways for 1 person or 2, 3...to vote over and over for the same entry.

  3. Please clarify...Are you saying people are voting more than once for same entry & this cannot be detected?? This is important to me so please reply :) ty

  4. Hi Wendy the settings through the host are set so an individual can only vote once. I have been told there are ways to try to get around that, but through the system I can detect duplicate votes.

  5. People can only vote once on that computer,, but they can vote again and again on different computers. There is no way to stop this. Do not to rock the boat, just saying.
So in effect it is one vote per computer, not per person.

  6. That is why I wish that the general vote would be 1 of the factors overall for a group of judges to decide.

  7. And I would like 'Elli' removed from this contest, and hope 'Bob' wins,

  8. Why would you want any dog removed from the contest? I think that's more than a little unfair of you.

As for the votes, form what I've been able to gather (through voting myself) the poll only registers one vote per IP address. So even if you have 18 computers in your house, if they're all connected to the same router, you can only vote once.

  9. Hi Cher, I have tested what I am saying. Every computer has its own IP address, not a router. I have 2 computers on my router and was able to vote for my dog, Elli, 2x. That is why I wanted Elli removed as I 'cheated' to see if it was possible

Also the way the contest computer knows your computer has already voted is by placing an identifier on the computer that voted. If someone was able to find that, someone could vote as many times as they want by just deleting the identifier.

  10. I agree! Bob, definitely found a way to cheat. I've noticed each time another pet near him gets a vote, his goes up a few so he can be guaranteed the win. It's looking very obvious to me.

  11. good, someone else see's. It is very obvious. And Paxton has only 5 votes?!?! That is not right.

  12. But torontopetdaily.com and myself have been talking. Do not think this will happen again. There are better ways.

  13. Hi all,

I'm Bear's owner and the comment thread for this post is beginning to unnerve me a little. I've noticed that Bob's numbers are jumping ridiculously, but I also know that his owner has been promoting him via facebook (as I've been doing with Bear, as well as email etc.)
It is disturbing for me to hear that 1) it is possible to cheat in this poll and 2) people may be cheating the system.

Is there any way to be sure that all the votes that are coming in are legitimate? I've worked hard to scrounge up votes for my Bear and would not like to see that work go to waste.

  14. Hi E.B. I think it's possible to cheat in almost every poll....a shame really. With regard to this contest, I am able to view the IP addresses and see the duplicate votes from certain IPs. So far I see only 4 duplicate votes, nothing to alter the outcome.

I have always noticed that those who push through votes through social media (like you have done) tend to get a higher number of votes.

  15. Thank you for that reply. It helps settle the uneasiness stirred up by the thread below this one.

  16. I am not, did not saying that anyone is ,voting more than once but me, to see if it was possible. That is why I have told T.P.D. my concerns, as it is very easy to do, and if she were to end up in a spot for or a prize, I would of course have to decline. And I have stopped tiring to get votes from my network for Elli. But Elli made the top ten and that is great. Even if she did not get in the top 10, she will always be my champ. But I must say, the photo of Bear is great and I think Bob is amazing. I hope Bear and Bob win.

  17. I came to this page through one of the social network pages because I was asked to support a specific dog. I clicked, saw all the contestants and eventually voted for the one I personally liked best. It was not the one I was asked to vote for, sorry. It was Bob. Not in the last place because his is the best photograph. Then I read all the bickering below. I don´t understand that people would think that if Bob won, the voting wasn´t fair. Hasn´t anyone considered he got the most votes until now, because people like him best? Just to be clear, I am from Europe and have absolutely no stake in the outcome of this contest whatsoever, I was just baffled by the pettiness of the dog owners.

  18. i dont known bob but i voted for him. love his aged face!

  19. oh my goodness is this a child contest or what? I have had my dogs pics in other contests and been beat out. even when I know my friends are voting daily...that is the downfall of an online voting contest..the more people you know and have access to the more votes you'llget..so stop griping people! sounds like some children bickering over who has more marbles..I have come back a couple times..and each time I have voted for bob not because i knew him. but because that aged face just gets me..!

  20. I think all the photos are great. My personal favorite is the Pugs. Wishing everyone the best!

  21. I don't think the dog owners are petty. It's natural to want your dog to win, especially if you're working hard to promote him. What disturbs me is that all this was started because one man decided to try cheating, succeeded and then went on to publicly denounce how legitimate the poll really is. And you have to admit, when you look at the numbers, Bob's numbers are so high that it does look a little suspicious. Then again, he is a beautiful dog and it is a beautiful photo.

For the record, I also came here through social networking sites having been asked to support one dog. For you to turn you vote when someone very obviously asked you for help is a little rude, don't you think? Not that that person would have known until you announced it here.
