Petting Your Pooch While Driving Will Cost You In Alberta

The list of what drivers shouldn’t do when they’re behind the wheel is long: no putting on lipstick, no petting the dog and no calling the local radio station to try to win concert tickets.

The list of what is allowed is simple: drive.

With Labour Day weekend one of the busiest for drivers as Canadians hit the road to stretch out the end of summer, there will be distractions.

But as stricter legislations come in from different provinces and innovative programs on education and enforcement are introduced, police across the country are hoping lives can be saved.

Alberta has brought in the toughest distracted driving legislation in Canada, making it a $172 fine for anyone caught doing personal grooming, talking on the phone or petting their dog. Read more
