Nationwide motel chain Motel 6 has always been pet friendly, and on many occasions I have been so pleased to have been able to snuggle up with my pooch on a road trip. I must say though, I am highly disappointed in the company's decision to reserve this discount solely to individuals with pure bred dogs. It is not about the savings, it is about the fact that the decision projects the attitude that pure bred dogs are of a higher societal class than the mutts. How about the chain provide a discount to those who have saved a dog from harsh life in a shelter (or even worse)? You know what would make this easier? Offering the discount to dog owners. Below is the press release. Am I reading too much into this folks?
TORONTO - The Motel 6 chain has partnered with the Canadian Kennel Club to offer room discounts to the group's 25,000 members. The company says members of the club, which promotes purebred dogs, will get 10 per cent off reservation rates at Motel 6 and Studio 6.
"We understand that finding pet-friendly accommodations can be a challenge and welcome both CKC members and their four-legged friends with this discount at our locations across the United States and Canada," said Olivier Poirot, CEO for Accor North America, Motel 6 and Studio 6.
Motel 6, which has 1,100 company-owned and franchised locations, says it was the first national pet-friendly chain and has welcomed pets since 1962.
"Pets must be on a leash or securely carried outside of guest rooms and under control at all times," says the company's pet policy.*
