THS To Open A Week Tuesday

The Toronto Humane Society will reopen its doors June 28, president Michael Downey announced Monday.
The River St. shelter has been closed for several months since the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals raided it amid allegations including animal neglect.
"This institution has gone through some very difficult times," said Downey, replacement for former president Tim Trow, who was led away in handcuffs during the raid. "But that is behind us now as we look forward to a compassionate and professional Toronto Humane Society that provides a vital service to the animals and public of the Greater Toronto Area."
While the society hopes to begin accepting animals ahead of the June 28 opening, an announcement will be made on that matter in the coming days, spokesman Ian McConachie said.
